Central Govt. Establishes Central Consumer Protection Authority

The Central Government has established the Central Consumer Protection Authority with its headquarter at New Delhi, with effect from 24th July 2020. Central Consumer Protection Authority [CCPA] is a national level regulator dealing with matters relating to violation of rights of consumers, unfair trade practices and false or misleading advertisements which are prejudicial to the interests of public and consumers. Chapter III of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 contains provisions regarding CCPA. The provisions related to the CCPA, which were not notified last week, will come into force with effect from 24th July. Many provisions of the Consumer Protection Act , 2019 and various Rules had come into force on 20th July itself.
