Delhi HC Issues Notice to ECI on Plea Seeking De-Registration of YSR Congress Party

The Delhi High Court issued notice in a plea moved by Anna YSR Congress Party seeking de-registration of Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy’s political party called YSR Congress for the alleged unlawful appropriation of the name ‘YSR’ on its party pamphlets, letterheads and collaterals. The Single Bench of Justice Jayant Nath has issued notices to the Election Commission of India and to the YSR Congress Party. The petition seeks a direction to be issued to the Election Commission of India to withdraw YSR Congress Party’s status as “recognized party” under Para 6A of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968 and to de-register the same under its inherent powers.
